“From toolbox to project management, I know every facet of a property.”

I started my professional career in the trades, as a plumbing, heating and air conditioning technician. I know first-hand what it feels like to be on the construction site in the morning and to know what you have achieved in the evening. These days I manage complex real estate projects in several countries. Along the way, I came to know many facets of the real estate world.

What has always driven me? Curiosity and the conviction that good buildings only come about if you think about them holistically and understand them in practical terms. In line with this view, I have continued to grow and develop part-time while working. First I went to technical college, then I studied business administration, after that a master’s degree in energy and resource efficiency, and later on I took a continuing education course in sustainable real estate management.
These days I work as a technical asset manager at Deka Immobilien. I manage several properties in the office, hotel, retail and logistics asset classes in Poland, manage complex refurbishment projects in Germany, support tenant conversions and develop innovative solutions that get buildings ready for the future in environmental, functional and economic terms.

Christian Bierenfeld joined Deka Immobilien in 2022 in the role of Senior Sustainable Real Estate Manager and now holds the position of Technical Asset Manager for Europe South and East.

WHAT DRIVES ME?

I joined Deka Immobilien in the ESG and smart building sector in April 2022. In that role, I saw how sustainability can be not only planned centrally at the portfolio level but also systematically built directly into a building’s very foundations. Today I work on the operational side, where I put those same standards into practice. The exciting thing about this is having a 360-degree perspective on the property. My technical background helps me understand users’ requirements and implement ESG measures in practice in order to achieve our shared goals in areas such as reducing CO2 emissions. That’s exactly what excites me: bringing technology, utility and strategy together.

That might also be why my passion for triathlons is such a great fit for my professional environment. Anyone who runs, swims and cycles knows how important endurance, focus and team spirit are.
